Summertime is all about kicking back and taking it easy, but come July 4 it’s time to pull out all the stops. It’s America’s birthday, after all! Parades, entertainment, food, and fireworks—these Fourth of July events in Louisiana and Texas are fun for the whole family.

Where to See Fourth of July Fireworks in Louisiana (2019)

You can expect lots of waterfront July 4 fireworks shows and festivities in the Bayou State. Here’s where to find the best Fourth of July Fireworks in Louisiana:

Shreveport

Festival Plaza is the most exciting place to be in Shreveport, LA, on Independence Day. The annual KTBS 3 Freedom Fest Series’ grand finale is July 4. Enjoy food, live music, and fireworks over the Red River. Watch the show from the Riverview Park or go across the river for a different vantage point at the Louisiana Boardwalk Outlets.

Natchitoches

The City of Natchitoches, LA, will host its annual Celebration on the Cane this Fourth of July. Grab a blanket and lawn chairs and head downtown for live music and fireworks on the beautiful Cane River Lake at 9 p.m.

Lake Charles

Lake Charles, LA, will host its signature Red, White, Blue & You Celebration this July 4. A parade downtown, a family-friendly festival at the Civic Center, and a salute to the U.S. Armed Forces by the Lake Charles Community Band are just a few things you can expect at this popular community event. Last year, the Southeast Tourism Society named Lake Charles’ Red, White, Blue & You Celebration one of the Top 20 events for the month of July. The fun starts at 6 p.m.

Baton Rouge

Historic battleship USS KIDD has hosted its annual 4th of July Spectacular in downtown Baton Rouge, LA, for more than two decades. The battleship hosts a popsicle parade, hot dog eating contest, and watermelon seed spitting contest. You can also take a tour of the destroyer and enjoy food, beverages, and live entertainment.

Daytime festivities begin at 4 p.m., and the impressive fireworks display over the Mississippi River kicks off at 9 p.m. Many nearby businesses host viewing parties, including L’Auberge Casino Hotel and the Shaw Center for the Arts.

New Iberia

The Fourth of July festivities in New Iberia, LA, begin with a parade down Main Street at 2 p.m., followed by an Honor Guard ceremony, live music, and saltwater fishing rodeo. Afterward, head to Erath, LA, for more Fourth of July fun. Erath’s 83rd Annual Fourth of July Celebration is a nearly week-long party complete with a Cajun carnival, parade, fun run, and live music. The fireworks display begins promptly at 9 p.m.

New Orleans

In a city with a reputation for being a huge party destination, it’s no wonder the Big Easy is home to arguably the most outrageous Fourth of July celebration in the state. New Orleans’ Go 4th on the River is held on the banks of the Mississippi River and features dueling barges, which is exactly what it sounds like: competing barges shooting off fireworks to the tune of patriotic music.

Fireworks begin at 9 p.m. The official location for the show is between Governor Nicholls Street Wharf and the Canal Street Dock. You can catch the fireworks from several different places along the riverfront, such as Woldenberg Park, Crescent Park, and even across the river of the West Bank.

Or, celebrate Independence Day with America’s favorite pastime: baseball! The New Orleans Baby Cakes play the San Antonio Missions at 7 p.m. at Shrine on Airline in nearby Metairie, LA, and will be putting on a fireworks show after the game.
